Ciel Phantomhive
                       Ciel Phantomhive

Who else can claim to be in love with Queen Victoria herself? That’s right, none other than Sebastian Michaelis. He always has Ciel’s back, and they share an almost familial bond; in fact, it wouldn’t surprise us if he doesn’t consider himself human. It helps that he knows everything about our young master, but we get a feeling he knows a lot more than he lets on.

Ciel Phantomhive Though often cold and distant at first glance, does have his sentimental moments; we’re still convinced there are times when it seems like his emotions get ahead of him and betray his true self. But who could blame him for being so devoted to Ciel? They’ve been through so much together, and he clearly loves his master as much as Ciel loves him. We’d say it’s a match made in heaven! Is Ciel Phantomhive a girl?

Kyo Soma is a boy, many people think he’s female because of his long hair. His name could be interpreted as a girl’s name due to how it sounds in Japanese. His actual name in English is Siegfried. Siegfried was a hero of german mythology, the son of King Sigmund and Queen Sieglinde. He was given a sword by dwarven smiths named Balmung which helped him slay a dragon that terrorized Burgundy. He later slew Hunding with another sword called Nothing.

Balmung and Nothung were reforged into one weapon for Siegfried by Mimer after Hunding’s death, which he then used to kill Fafnir when Fafnir attempted to kill him for being Siegmund’s son. After killing Fafnir, he bathed in Fafnir’s blood and gained invulnerability except on one spot between his shoulders where drops of hot blood fell from Fafnir’s heart when it burst during their fight. The blood entered Siegfried’s skin there and gave him strength whenever he was weak or needed courage. The result is that if you stab Siegfried there, you will wound but not kill him.

If you cut off his head or slit his throat, however, he will die instantly since those wounds would be fatal even to an immortal like himself. To gain access to Fafnir’s hoard of treasure (which included Andvari’s ring), Siegfried had to agree to give up all of his worldly possessions including arms so that no one would know who killed Fafnir and thus prevent anyone else from trying to claim any part of Fafnir’s hoard.

Is Ciel Phantomhive a villain?

No! He’s just misunderstood. A big part of it stems from his last name: Phantomhive. The Phantomhives, like much other nobility, have a nasty habit of fobbing off their dirty work on other people—in other words, they use their power to pay lower-class citizens to do illegal things for them that they don’t want on their own hands. This is exactly what happened to young Ciel in a case early in the manga—his parents killed by a demon and his soul was trapped in an iron maiden. (They made it look like he had killed them.) So what does an 11-year-old boy do when something terrible happens?

He hires someone else to fix it. That someone else was Sebastian Michaelis, a demon butler who eats souls and can regenerate body parts (including his head). Thus begins Ciel’s life as an earl with a demonic butler at his side; together they solve mysteries and murders while trying to discover who framed Ciel for murder. Of course, as you might expect with such unusual circumstances, there are complications…but you’ll have to read more about those yourself!
