Yusuke Urameshi

Yusuke Urameshi

Meet Yusuke Urameshi, the 15-year-old protagonist of YuYuHakusho. Originally voiced by Nozomu Sasaki in the original Japanese and Justin Cook in the English dub (by FUNimation), Yusuke Urameshi is called Eugene in the Filipino adaptation of the anime series. If you want to learn more about this character, read on!

Appearance

During his days in junior high school, Yusuke was a very short boy with a messy hairstyle. He had average-length blue hair and brown eyes. In addition to his uniform, he wore a white wristband on his left arm and red sneakers. When fighting demons in Chapter Black Saga (Episode 36), he wears all black attire: fingerless gloves and boots.

During his time in high school, Yusuke Urameshi physical features appear to change somewhat. He is still fairly short and has messy hair; however, he starts wearing a jacket with a T-shirt underneath and blue jeans. He also gains a ring worn on his left middle finger. In addition to these changes,Yusuke Urameshi also develops muscles and height similar to Kuwabara’s in their late teens while fighting Hiei near Sensui’s gate (although he reverts to his small stature later). His eyes are usually colored brown but turn red when using Spirit Gun or performing one of his spirit techniques.

Quotes from Yusuke

Everyone dies, sooner or later. There’s nothing that kills you quicker than a one-track mind. I’m not going to run away and play dead when I fight! I am strong! And I don’t care if you call me a monster! –Yusuke Urameshi.

He is a teenage delinquent in grade ten at Sarayashiki Junior High School. After dying to save a child in a car accident on his way to school one morning, he became a Spirit Detective and later entered Reikai Academy with Raizen’s aid to protect Karasu from Sensui. During his time at both schools and as Spirit Detective, he fights many demons and monsters that threaten human existence. After graduating from Reikai Academy and defeating Sensui for good, he continues to work as a Spirit Detective alongside Hiei and Kurama until Kaito returns from Makai. He also helps out around his neighborhood on occasion by repairing houses damaged by infighting between demon factions without ever taking credit for it.

The Journey Begins

The first step on any hero’s journey is usually a call to adventure. Sometimes it’s unexpected and sometimes they volunteer, but either way, they always start with a choice. For many people who work in tech or aspire to work in tech that initial call may be an unconventional one. And what happens next is completely up to them. At HouseTrip we were fortunate enough to find one such individual in Yusuke Urameshi.

At HouseTrip we’re always on the lookout for young tech talent and are lucky enough to have assembled a small army of geeks under 30. But that means we need to look even younger than that sometimes if we want to find fresh, bright talent. Enter High School student & gamer extraordinaire  ToukaKirishim. A typical 15-year-old spends his free time playing computer games & attending tournaments with his friends. And like most teens in Japan (and elsewhere), he’s already starting to think about what he wants to do when he grows up…

Other Things You Should Know About Him

If you’re a fan of Anime or are looking for a new series to watch, I recommend picking up a copy of YuYuHakusho. It’s an easy series to get into and most have found it to be quite relatable (if you can relate to having more confidence than brains). And if you decide to pick up a copy, start with Chapter 71; it’s only 30 pages long and was adapted into Episode 1 in English. Once you finish that story arc though, I highly recommend reading everything else because all 86 Chapters and 4 OVAs are great! You should find yourself getting sucked into Yusuke Urameshi’s world before long.

The main reason I like him though is that despite his faults, Yusuke Urameshi is a genuinely good person. Yusuke Urameshi is always trying to do what he believes is right and if you think about it, he’s just trying to be a good kid in a bad situation. It reminds me of my teenage years too; I was constantly doing stupid things but in my head, it was all justified. After all, we are who we are, and sometimes what happens just gets out of hand but that doesn’t mean everything was for nothing. If you reflect on your past and see how far you’ve come since then, maybe you can find some perspective and learn from it as well.
