Early life
Glen de Vries was born in the United States of America on June 29, 1972. There isn’t a lot of information about his childhood or parents. Though it is revealed that he was interested in computers since he was a child. His mother urged him to learn dancing when he was in high school.
In terms of his schooling, he attended Carnegie Mellon University. In 1994, he graduated from university with a master’s degree in biological sciences. He worked as a research assistant at New York University while attending university.
He started working as a research associate at Columbia University in January 1994. He set up an electronic health record system for the Department of Urology and used RT-PCR to develop an assay for detecting micrometastases in prostate cancer patients. He left Columbia University in January 1996 to work as an EMR Project Director at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.
He was named President of the business, OceanTek, in January 1997. He worked on internet application development for healthcare and e-commerce there for two years, until January 1999. He co-founded Medidata Solutions, a technology firm, in 1999. He was also the company’s President for 20 years, where he was in charge of developing the company’s strategy and vision.
He joined the firm as a co-CEO in October 2019. Medidata had a market capitalization of $3.3 billion in 2017. After Dassault Systems purchased the firm, the valuation jumped to $5.8 billion. He was a licensed private pilot with an instrument rating in addition to his business operation.
In October 2021, Glen traveled to space alongside Star Trek star William Shatner on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin. With three personnel aboard the spaceship, he stayed three minutes 62 miles above the Earth. Glen was recently flying in a Cessna 172 single-engine plane on November 11, 2021. Before 3 p.m., a tiny plane crashed in Sussex County, New Jersey. Thomas Fischer, a New Jersey aircraft entrepreneur, was also killed in the plane disaster.
