Early life
Kathy Hochul was born in the United States on August 27, 1958, in Buffalo, New York. John P. “Jack” Courtney and Patricia Ann “Pat” Courtney were her parents when she was born. Kathy was born into a poor family and spent her early years living in a trailer near a steel plant.
Her educational background includes a degree from Syracuse University. Hochul was active in politics during his time at university. In 1980, she graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree. She went on to Catholic University Columbus School of Law, where she graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 1984.
