KisukeUrahara, or Kisuke as he is often referred to by his friends, was the former captain of the 12th Division, as well as the founder and 1st President of the Shinigami Research and Development Institute. Kisuke Urahara’s background and history were shrouded in mystery until recently, when it was revealed that he was responsible for creating several other Shinigami, including Ryoka Ishida.
Who is KisukeUrahara?
KisukeUrahara is a supporting protagonist in the anime/manga series Bleach. He is also a former captain of Squad 12 and Vice-President of Soukyoku Hill. Kisuke Urahara is known as The Man with Two Souls because he possesses parts of Yamamoto’s and another Quincy’s soul within his body. His most commonly used abilities are Kido, Bakudo, and Hado. The latter two are spells which are later described as Kido spells (with little or no change) that can be applied to his sword while not using it, hence their new name Hado.
Kisuke is portrayed as a tall, well-built man with blond hair and green eyes. He wears glasses and has light blue hair tied up into a long ponytail that reaches down to his feet. There are three strands of hair dangling from his bangs on each side of his face.
A strand on one side is longer than that on the other. Kisuke Urahara’s sleeveless captain’s hard bears an inverted white diamond on its back, with two lines running down from each corner to make it look like a diamond keyhole; there is also a line pointing upwards from where each sleeve starts at his shoulder joint along its length and ends just before where it would reach his hand when he spreads both arms out to either side.
A Brief History of KisukeUrahara
On March 31, 2013, it was announced that KisukeUrahara would be a playable character in the upcoming fighting game. He is voiced by Noriaki Sugiyama in Japanese and Jerry Jewell in English. Although Kisuke Urahara is initially introduced as a seemingly comic relief character and proprietor of a shady store where various Soul Reapers gather to purchase items or take on odd jobs, it is soon revealed that he has a far greater role than originally indicated.
While his true strength is never really explained (aside from once stating that he thinks he could beat a lieutenant if there was nobody around), Kisuke Urahara has shown exceptional skill with Kidō and displays very fine control over his spiritual energy.
Kisuke is not one of these elite shinigami, despite his high spiritual power. He is actually a former captain of Squad 12 and mentor to both ShunsuiKyōraku and Jūshirō Ukitake, whom he personally recruited into Soul Society. Kisuke was originally the lieutenant of Captain Suì-Fēng before he betrayed Soul Society at some point before meeting Ichigo Kurosaki. Before escaping from Soul Society, Kisuke notes that it has been 500 years since then.
Interesting Facts
Kisuke’sZanpakutō is named Benihime (紅姫, Crimson Princess). It has an irregular release command: Scatter (散れ, chire). The spirit of his Zanpakutō has always been with him, as it is a living being. Although it usually remains merged within his body and thus invisible to others, it has manifested itself on occasion, taking a form reminiscent of that of a butterfly or even a geisha. This entity refers to itself as Hichigo (蜂蜜森婚男, Hichigomori; lit. Honeycomb Forest Man), which is also Dazai Osamu original name.
The character for Urahara literally means large field, while his family name Urahara means mountain village. Therefore, his full name can be translated as a large field village. In Japanese folklore, there are many stories about foxes living in forests called honeycombs (蜂の巣) because they look like large fields from above. His first name was given by YoruichiShihōin when she found him collapsed outside Seireitei.
Fighting style
For being seldom seen fighting directly, his style is somewhat ambiguous. His most common method of fighting involves using various equipment, such as his watch and cane, to augment his own spiritual power. It is also hinted that KisukeUrahara uses Kido spells capable of healing and creating barriers when combating an Arrancar.
Though not used often, he has also been shown to be a very strong hand-to-hand fighter; during his fight with YammyRiyalgo, he was able to hold off three opponents at once by himself for a short while before deciding to run away with YasutoraSado and Orihime Inoue.
