Kurapika (クラピカ, Kurapika) is the last survivor of the Kurta Clan. He is a Blacklist Hunter and the current leader of the organization founded by Light Nostrade. He is a member of the Zodiacs with the codename Rat ( 子ね, Ne). His goal is to avenge his clan and recover the remaining Scarlet Eyes for their resurrection ritual.

Background:

Kurapika
                                      Kurapika

The Kurapika is a survivor of a massacre in which all members of his clan, with the exception of himself and ChrolloLucilfer, were killed. His eyes and those of other clan members were taken by an unknown party for unknown reasons. After recovering one eye from an auction house, Kurapika encountered Neon Nostrade who wanted to recruit him for her father’s bodyguards, which he accepted.

During his mission to guard Neon during a visit to Yorknew City, Kurapika was attacked by one of the Phantom Troupe members ChrolloLucilfer in order to steal his eyes. With help from Gon and KilluaZoldyck, Kurapika managed to get back his eyes but lost them again after failing to stop Chrollo from leaving. He then decided to pursue him until he recovered both of his stolen eyes.

He later joins a group called Zodiacs led by Light Nostrade which consists of twelve members whose goal is to capture or kill twelve criminals called Greed Island that has been appearing around the world. He becomes good friends with some of its members, such as Melody and Kanzai. However, their friendship sours when they find out that Light has been using them for his own agenda.

Personality

Kurapika is a very serious and mature person, prone to extreme bouts of anger when provoked. Due to his background and history as a child soldier, he does not tolerate neglect or disobedience from those who work for him and will often threaten, harm, or kill someone if they fail him. In spite of his cool demeanor and lack of compassion towards most people he meets,

Kurapika cares deeply for his friends and comrades. He is willing to go to great lengths to ensure their safety and happiness, even at a personal cost. He also has a strong sense of honor as he was deeply offended by Leorio refusing his help after learning that Leorio did so because he felt indebted to him.

Who is the Kurta Clan?

Kurapika was born into a clan of hunters that worshiped sentient life forms called Nen (念) and trained to become Hunters specialized in using aura. Kurapika is the last survivor of his clan, murdered by one of his own tribe who coveted their eyes (which are rare in Nen users). The Kurta was able to sense death through their eyes—they could tell how many days someone had left to live.

By stealing these Scarlet Eyes, Kurapika was doomed to see every member of his clan die before him. It is for that reason he seeks out those with red eyes, so he can steal them and end his curse. In doing so, he hopes to find a way to save himself from seeing everyone he cares about killed in front of him.

He believes that if he steals enough red-eyed people’s eyes, then maybe someday there will be no more red-eyed people left for him to steal from. To do so would allow him to end his curse once and for all…and put an end to those who have taken everything from him.

Why was Kurapika exiled from his clan?

When Kurapika was young, he learned that one of his clan members had murdered another to gain favor with its leader. He reported what he knew to his master, but as punishment for betraying a fellow clan member, he was exiled and marked with a cursed seal. Before leaving his home, he told his younger sister Nanika that one day she would abandon their clan and seek revenge for him. Years later,

anime bases have become a Hunter in order to track down his clansmen to learn more about how they were killed so he can develop a plan of retribution. To do so, however, he needs someone on the inside who can tell him where his enemies are hiding out so that no trace of them remains in NGL territory.

He meets GonFreecss, KilluaZoldyck, and LeorioParadinight while searching for an applicant to join his team. The four agree to work together until they find an applicant worth hiring; if none can be found within two weeks’ time, they will disband and part ways. During their travels through Yorknew City, Kurapika is framed by a group of thieves hired by HisokaMorow for stealing their loot.
